Phantasia, a Barcelona-based design studio founded by Malva Sawada, Edu Piracés, and Laura Santarelli, is driven by a commitment to impactful and meaningful design projects. The trio, who previously collaborated at a Barcelona studio, established Phantasia in 2021 to embrace more experimental and intentional work, allowing them greater freedom in choosing projects and collaborators. The studio’s project portfolio spans art, culture, fashion, and architecture, all focused on service to communities and prioritizing diversity, inclusivity, and representation.
Phantasia has gained recognition for its innovative and critical approach to design, evident in projects like the Barcelona pride campaign and the dynamic identity for the “Fabulating Landscapes” exhibition at Museu Habitat, which challenged the museum’s colonial history. Through these works, Phantasia exemplifies its vision of making communication design more inclusive and empathetic.
The co-founders draw inspiration from pioneering creatives who challenge design norms, citing influences like Irma Boom, Enzo Mari, Bea Feitler, and Rei Kawakubo. These role models reflect Phantasia’s ethos of pushing boundaries in design and communication to convey cultural and social messages effectively. Phantasia continues to explore new ways to use bold visual styles to address meaningful causes, promoting dialogue and collaboration through their work.
